NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

22 JULY 2022

STATEMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE MEMBER COUNTY COUNCILLOR SIMON MYERS

Planning

The County Council adopted its first ‘Planning Enforcement Control Service Pledge’ in March 2000 and while a revised version of this Pledge (dated February 2005) was adopted on 7 March 2005, it is clear that an update and refresh to reflect current expectations is warranted.  Having consulted the Planning & Regulatory Functions Committee and the Transport, Economy & Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee in January of this year, the draft ‘Planning Enforcement and Monitoring Policy’ came to the Executive on 15 March.  In brief, its purpose is to provide guidance in relation to the principles and standards that the Council will apply in pursuance of its planning enforcement and monitoring responsibilities relating to mineral and waste development and the County Council’s own developments.

The public interest in planning enforcement is clearly recognised and the draft Policy will ensure an efficient and time-saving approach with the benefit of a dedicated resource.

The Policy is now recommended for adoption at this Council meeting.
